Novas Expands Deployment Of Debug System Within Ricoh's Electronic Devices Company

Multi-year, Volume Purchase Agreement Confirms Novas as Preferred Debug Platform for Advanced LSI Development

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 29, 2004 — Novas Software, Inc., the leader in debug systems for complex chip designs, today announced that Ricoh Company, Ltd. will significantly expand its global deployment of Novas debug solutions over the next three years. Ricoh’s Electronic Devices Company has been using the Novas Debussy“ Debug System since 1998 as its preferred debug platform. This new contract will see Ricoh double the number of software licenses and integrate Novas products with advanced assertion-based debug and timing analysis capabilities into the engineering environments of its overseas Imaging System LSI Development Centers.

“Debussy is one of the best debug tools for verification of RTL sign-off,” said Mr. Zenji Oka, manager of CAD Engineering Section for Ricoh. “Our HDL design engineers consider Debussy an integral component of the design and verification methodology, and rely on features such as static timing and dynamic functional analysis to accelerate design understanding and debug. Novas’ customer focus and commitment to supporting multiple design and verification languages including PSL were also key factors in our decision to expand our deployment of their solutions.”

“We appreciate Ricoh’s continued confidence in Novas products, and look forward to helping their engineers integrate Debussy as the standard debug solution throughout their entire development flow,” said Dave Kelf, vice president of marketing for Novas. “Our roadmap for further unifying and automating advanced debug processes is a good match with the evolving, highly complex verification requirements of digital image processing applications.”

Novas Debug Platform
Novas debug systems accelerate the process of understanding complex design structures to improve design, verification and debug productivity. They enable engineers to quickly locate and isolate relevant logic at the gate and register transfer level (RTL) in Verilog, VHDL and mixed-language designs. Highly automated visualization, analysis and tracing tools address design complexity and IP/design reuse issues by helping engineers comprehend complicated or unfamiliar code. Engineers can also debug automated testbench code, assertions, and Verilog and VHDL designs all within a single environment. This unified approach to debug significantly improves overall productivity with users consistently reporting that Novas products cut their debug time in half.

About Novas
Novas Software, Inc. is the leading provider of robust, tool-independent design debug systems to companies designing complex semiconductor integrated circuits (ICs) and systems-on-chip (SoCs). Novas' products dramatically reduce the time it takes for engineers to locate, isolate and solve the root causes of functional design and verification problems. Novas is ranked first in customer satisfaction for the second consecutive year in a comprehensive EDA study published by CMP. There are more than 12,000 Novas systems installed worldwide by over 400 companies and 35 EDA companies utilizing Novas technology in their products today.
